Class 27

Posted by mcmuttigans on December 28, 2009 at 4:52 PM

What can I say other than WOW!!! This new class of dogs is wonderful, I am so proud of the dogs that are gracing my presence. Most all of them are shelter dogs. Some have come from horrible conditions, some have come from severe neglect, and a couple were Puppy Mill dogs. All are doing very well adjusting. We have so many with therapy potential that it boggles the mind. I have something for everyone in this class and can't wait to have the pics and profiles to prove it. I can't wait to share these guys with all of you that have become supporters, or adopters as well as those of you that just follow the program to see what's next...The dogs are my life and this bunch puts a huge smile on my face every week. If you are looking to adopt, get your apps in early, this group has a lot to offer. :) AHHH!!!! Great pups are hard to find and these guys, with a lot of help from Stephanie Green, Dyersburg, TN shelter, FOSS of KY, Lexington Humane, Indiana Petite Paws, and even some owner surrenders have made this class not only diverse, but very great future family members. LOVE THEM!!

:) GO DOGGIES!!!

You believed in yourself and your mission enough to step out of the box and go for it!! I admire that. People told me I was crazy to try and train deaf dogs for animal-assisted interactions. Thank God I didn't listen to them.
Lottie Dot works at the VA Hospital in physical therapy with the newly wheelchair Vets...Monday on her day to work I was told the VA is planning on a program similar to yours but using Vets and the Animal Shelter. Anything to help find these great dogs a home!
I'm also a CGC trainer/evaluator if you need any help.
You're the best!

So you understand deaf dogs!! I have a dog Murphy in the class that has changed everyone's opinion of deaf dogs. He is the sweetest character ever, never meets a stranger and believes his job in life is to make people happy and Oh what he will do for love. He doesn't have that instinct of protecting himself at all when it comes to grabbing him from behind, if you do that his butt starts to wiggle and he is ready for cuddles. He is an amazing dog and one that I am so lucky to have the pleasure of knowing. I would love for him to find a home where he could go on to do therapy as he has so much he wants to give. Thank you for your comments and thank you for the offer.

Yes..I understand deaf dogs better than hearing ones...I have 2 myself...both great dogs....Murphy sounds wonderful and I will ask around about finding just the right home for him. Sounds like he was raised properly if he shows no agression when startled from behind...that is the first thing I do with pups is teach them it's OK to startle just recover quickly and without agression...that's the main reason people have such a misconception about deaf dogs....so many hearing dogs startle in the wrong way..it doesn't seem fair to the deaf ones.....The deaf ones focus on body language and facial expressions and have an inner sense about people that hearing dogs don't....make great therapy dogs. I think the Delta Society is the only therapy group that accepts the deaf ones...their testing is tough and they feel that if a dog whether hearing or not can pass...they are good to go!! TDI does not accept deaf animals.

I'd like to e/m you a one page story of my dogs I just wrote for a newsletter....how would I do that?
